The formation of the sorority was a response to the emergence of Latina women into an era of new educational, political, and social consciousness, and influx in female enrollment into universities. 17 Founding Mothers came together to create an organization that would cater to the needs of Latinas and focus on integrating itself into the social, political, and community service arena that other students have been involved with.
The Gamma Omicron chapter was established at the University of Washington on August 23, 2003 by 17 Founding Sisters. Today, the ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha dedicate themselves to sisterhood, academic excellence, community service, cultural and political awareness, and the empowerment of All women. |
