RECRUITMENT
Recruitment is a period where prospective new members have the opportunity to learn about the chapters they may be interested in joining. This is generally done by attending rush events, meeting and socializing with active members, learning about and getting a feel of the culture of the house, and ultimately determining whether the environment is a right fit. Each organization has their unique purpose, morals, and philanthropies, and have attracted students with diverse backgrounds, majors, and interests.
Often, rushing is as simple as determining whether you can picture yourself as a brother or sister of that chapter and whether the values of the house and its active members align with your own. Post recruitment week, interested members may be extended a 'bid', or a formal invitation from the chapter to progress to the next stage which entails the new member education process which may last from a couple weeks to several months depending on the chapter.
Recruitment for MGC fraternities and sororities varies by each organization and differs from recruitment for other councils such as IFC, NPHC or PHC. We recommend those interested to check out the organizations' respective websites or social media for more information regarding specific dates and times although all chapters recruit at the start of each academic year at the start of Fall Quarter. Lastly, we urge all interested rushees to do their research on chapters before committing to 'the one' as joining a fraternity or sorority entails a unique, lifetime membership and should not be taken lightly.
All MGC organizations will post updates on recruitment through social media. You can find our organizations handles on our contact page!
